Types of therapy:
BWRT
‘BWRT®’ stands for ‘BrainWorking Recursive Therapy®’, a model of psychology and psychotherapy created by UK professional therapist, Terence Watts, MCGI. It’s a totally confidential method that does not require you to reveal your private information or personal secrets to your therapist and it is carried out in a completely conscious state. It does not use hypnosis or any concepts that might be considered mystical or unscientific – it’s completely logical, practical and down-to-earth, and for it to succeed only needs you to know what you want to change in your life. Only Certified Practitioners have been trained to deliver BWRT® and all have to adhere to a strict ethical code. Find out more at www.bwrt.org.
Shelley has extensive training in BWRT. She is registered as levels 1, 2 and 3 practitioner and she is an international supervisor for other practitioners. Shelley created and runs a course to train other practitioners how to use BWRT with children.
Brainspotting
You may notice when you’re thinking deeply about something your eyes focus on one spot. This is the basic idea behind brainspotting. Brainspotting locates points in the client’s visual field that help to access unprocessed trauma in the subcortical brain. More detailed information www.brainspotting.com.
Shelley completed her level 1 training with Lisa Larson and level 2 with Mark Grixti.
Talk therapies
Shelley has extensive experience and training in a variety of traditional talk therapies such as Psychodynamic therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. She has level 1 training in Dialectical Behavioural Therapy.
Initial session
At your first consultation Shelley will ask a lot of questions to understand you and your needs. Together you will formulate a plan with goals. Shelley may use a combination of therapies to meet your needs. These will be explained and discussed with you before she uses any of them.
Between sessions
You may feel very upset after a session. It is not easy to open up and share inner self. This may cause a big range of emotion and feeling such as guilt or anger. I may not always be aware of the impact as your may choose to conceal it or only notice it after the session. If you feel you are a danger to yourself or others, please go to the nearest emergency room and inform us. It always remains your responsibility to guard your life and those around you.
If you feel you don’t want to see me or you feel I have mistreated you in some way, please be fair and book a session to discuss this. I do my best to ensure you leave the session in a good state and with good understanding but sometimes miscommunications occur.
Online sessions
Make sure you have Zoom installed and the link ahead of time. If you do not have it the day before your session, please contact my assistant immediately. Please ensure the device is fully charged and has sufficient data. Holding a device does not work well. You need a quiet space where others will not enter or disturb the session. Sometimes the car works well. If we are disconnected, I will wait 15 minutes. You are responsible for the security and connectivity of your internet/ service provider. In agreeing to online sessions you are acknowledging Shelley Hall is not responsible for any breaches of confidentiality or leaking of personal information due to hacking or other such occurrences. Missed session rules apply to online sessions too.
Loadshedding
Please be aware we have something called load shedding in South Africa. This means our power is turned off for hours at a time. Mostly they let us know when this will occur. Sometimes they suddenly change the schedule and this may impact sessions. I do have backup plans for connectivity but at times this does fail. It can be a challenge and we will do our best to keep you informed as much as possible.
How am I charged for sessions?
You are charged according to the session booked.
Additional charges may apply if sessions go over time. If you are late, or do not provide 24 hours notice of cancellation, you are still charged the full booked session rate.
Please note: up to 15 minutes may be reserved for note taking and therefore a session ended earlier than time booked.
Please make sure your session is paid 24 hours before. I will not see you if payment is not received and it will be billed as a missed session. It is your responsibility to ensure you know how to pay.
Payment
In South Africa, most medical aids are accepted. Cash sessions are paid upfront; the money must have cleared 24 hours before the session. You may opt to do an electronic funds transfer. However we have found using an app called Yoco is easier. My assistant sends a Yoco payment link and you are able to pay with your card. Please discuss payment options with my assistant.
